Geraldine Frances Lowery Barbour was born in Halifax County, Virginia on May 8, 1926. She was the daughter of Charles Peyton Lowery and Ottie Gae Lowery. They lived on a farm in Halifax County. On a visit to Johnston County, her father found a farm for sale that he liked. He purchased the farm during that trip and informed his family when he returned home. So they left other family in Virginia and proceeded to move to a new home in Johnston County. The farm was located in Elevation Township. Geraldine was one of five children, and was a young child when they moved to Johnston County. She attended Four Oaks School and graduated with the Class of 1943. Soon afterwards, she married the love of her life, James Almond Barbour. They purchased a farm and built a home on Raleigh Road. They became the parents of Kay Frances Barbour on May 12, 1946 and Kathy Diane Barbour on October 30, 1952.
They attended St. Mary's Grove Free Will Baptist Church until they decided to leave the farm and purchase a home on Bakers Street in Four Oaks in 1956. They began attending Four Oaks First Baptist Church at that time and they were active members for many years. They added a small room to their house where Geraldine operated "Jerry's Beauty Shop" until retirement. She had many interests including sewing, quilting, and traveling. The family spent many weekends at Surf City enjoying the ocean and fishing. She never missed a basketball game while Kay was in high school and on the basketball team. She also loved to watch college basketball games on television and pulled for North Carolina State. She loved to entertain her friends and family. Geraldine was well loved and cared for by family and friends, and lived at this residence until her death on July 31, 2020.
