Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord.Haggai 1:2-7. Ash Wednesday is the first of the forty days of Lent, a time of reflection and penitence leading up to Easter. In the bible, ashes are a sign of grief or shame for wrongdoing (e.g. Job 42:6; Daniel 9:3; Isaiah 61:3; Esther 4:3; 2 Samuel 13:19). The pastor makes the sign of the cross on each worshipers' forehead with ashes and reminds them of Genesis 3:19: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return. Rev.
